Beholders of Good Plans

The bridge between earth and eternity is shorter than it feels.

We will collect best friends weekly, pinky-promise seriously, and believe adventure is always one sleep away. We will loose friends easily and then find new ones before recess ends.

We will get too involved in student government and sports and every other club possible.

We will run from class to meetings to practice, convincing ourselves that busy was a personality, and exhaustion was normal. We will be stubborn. SO blonde and stubborn. We will get hurt. Both physically and spiritually. We will learn and grow.

Somewhere along the way, days will blur. Seasons slip quietly past us while we’re focused on what’s next.

If you don’t slowdown, time will pass you by. Time doesn’t wait for anyone.

But the here and now? This is what we’re called to. The in between. The middle of who you were and who you are becoming.
This is where we laugh without needing a reason.

This is where we can dance in the parking lot for hours and not get tired. This is why we can fail an organic chemistry exam and forget about it within the same week.

This is where school just feels like summer.

We look back and smile at who we were. And smile bigger that we aren’t there anymore.

We are becoming. We are beholders of GOOD plans.
We laugh a little at the urgency we used to sprint with.

We still dance in parking lots, still blast songs in cars, still dream out loud, still smile at strangers like we used to in high school. This time with a lighter heart. With a softer spirit.

Lighter because we’ve learned joy is allowed to grow up with us. Joy didn’t get stuck in the high school drama. Or in the bad news. Or in the relationship. It goes behind and before.

We are the livers of life,
the crossers of bridges,

time-travelers,
the dreamers who walk forward without needing to rush.
