Thoughts on Real Love!
The world talks about love more than ever.
And yet, it seems we've never been more confused by it.
We've made love a feeling.
A preference.
An emotion that comes when life is easy and quietly leaves when life becomes inconvenient.
We say, "If it feels loving, it must be right."
But feelings have never been sturdy enough to define something as sacred as love.
Love was never meant to be discovered by looking at ourselves.
It was meant to be learned by looking at the cross.
The cross reminds us that love is not first a feeling.
It is a choice.
A sacrifice.
A commitment to seek another person's good, even when it costs us something.
Real love isn't afraid of truth.
And the real truth is never absent of love.
We don’t have to choose between truth and love because Jesus never did. He calls us to be “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15). Truth without love becomes harsh, and love without truth becomes fake. The Lord held both together perfectly.
The world often separates the two.
It tells us that if you love someone, you'll never challenge them.
That kindness means silence.
That acceptance and love are the same thing.
But Jesus never loved that way.
He welcomed people before they changed.
He ate with sinners.
He touched lepers.
He defended the broken.
And because He loved them, He also called them to something greater.
His love never left people where it found them.
Love doesn't celebrate what destroys us.
It fights for what gives us life.
Sometimes love comforts, sometimes love confronts, sometimes love sits in silence. Sometimes love speaks the hard truth with tears in its eyes.
Love isn't measured by how comfortable it makes us feel.
It's measured by how closely it reflects the heart of Christ.
The world keeps asking, "What feels like love?"
Scripture asks a different question.
"What looks like Jesus?"
Because if we ever lose sight of Him, we'll eventually redefine love into whatever is easiest for us to accept.
But if we keep our eyes on Christ, we'll discover that love has always been more beautiful, more courageous, and more costly than we imagined.
